iPhone Review: Cricket T20 Super Sixers

Released: April 28th, 2009
Developer/Publisher: IGFUN LLC
Price: $0.99
Verdict: Save your dollar.
Pros: Good graphics and controls, low price.
Cons: No tutorial or help menus.

I’m genuinely wondering if I can make this review long enough to call it a review. This has certainly been a challenge for me.

I was born in, and live in America. While I travel a lot, and love to learn the cultures of other countries, I know nothing about the game of cricket. I didn’t think that would really hold me back from reviewing this game. Most Americans have never even heard of cricket, and with the iTunes App Store being divided between regions, I was sure a tutorial would be included. I was quite wrong. I’ve spent more than a couple of weeks, now, trying to learn everything I can about cricket through sources like Wikipedia. Still, this game makes no sense to me.  The game sets you up against a pitcher, and you need to hit the ball. That part, anyone can figure out. You hit it by sliding your finger across the screen in the direction you’d like to hit it. If it goes really far, the game puts a very excited “6″ up on the screen. I’m still not sure why.

I'm not quite sure what is going on here!

The graphics are very nice, as is the sound. The controls are responsive and seem to be well designed. Again, this is all said with my minimal knowledge of this sport. I will say, the game has a bit of a habit of crashing on me, and I’ve seen that mentioned in its reviews on iTunes. Most developers will post a fix to this at some point, so I won’t hold that against them. What I will hold against this game is its completely lack of a tutorial or help menu (other than the single loading screen). If it would walk you through a little bit, just enough to let me know if I’m winning or losing, I’m sure there would be much more enjoyment in here.

This isn't helping much either!

Overall, if you’re a fan of cricket, this seems like a fairly well designed game– not to mention the great price of a dollar. If you have no idea what cricket is or how to play it, don’t waste your time. This game won’t help you learn.

You don't know what a 6 means in Cricket and yet you say that you tried to learn from different sources? Well, I can honestly say that you have poor research skills.

I'd be more willing to bet it has something to do with the fact that I'm autistic ;)

Seriously, though: I'm shocked I'd have to go to any external sources to learn how to play a region specific game like this.

For one am glad for this excellent informative article. More often than not, the very best answers come from the sites you may not expect. Not long ago, I failed to give quite much thought to posting comments on blog posts and have left comments even less. Reading through your good page, might help me to take action on a regular basis.
