EA announced today (alongside Spore Hero) that Spore Hero Arena is coming soon to the Nintendo DS. The game is supposed to take place in the same galaxy as Spore Hero, and there ARE a few similarities. Both games are centered around the player’s character, following their story as they try to save their planets. Spore Hero Arena’s basic premise is that an evil force has taken over a bunch of planets, and it is up to you to battle corrupted creatures and knock some sense into them. During the game, you will be jetted across different planets, where you will explore and be sent to an arena to do battle. The battles contain up to 4 creatures at a time, and EA boasts that your upgrades and body parts, 150 of which will be unlockable, will aid your battle skills in different ways. There are to be various game modes, including straight-up deathmatch and “King of the Planet.”
The DS handles the creature creator surprisingly well, and besides obvious graphic differences, it seems to bring the same quality as the Wii and PC edition. Another interesting feature of Spore Hero Arena is the ability to battle over Wi-Fi- which is mysteriously absent from the Wii version. 2 players will be able to battle over wi-fi, while 4 players will be able to battle wirelessly. The game launches right alongside Spore Hero, which will hit North American retailers on Oct. 6 2009 and internationally on Oct. 9, 2009.
