After causing a little bit of controversy with my review of TriviaBurst I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was allowed near another quiz game: this time in the guise of FourDoorLemon’s QuizQuizQuiz. This game is a collaboration between UK developer FourDoorLemon and QuizQuizQuiz, a Quiz specialist (strangely enough) which arranges Quiz nights around the UK, so it certainly has the pedigree to be something special. From my early impressions with a very stable preview build, this looks to be a winner.
Offering a wide array of options and game modes, there is plenty to do. Quizmaster is all about gaining the highest score by answering as many questions as possible correctly. You’re given three chances (or lives) to make a mistake as well as three lifelines (think Who Wants to be a Millionaire style) and a range of categories to traverse. A wide range of general knowledge is good to have with categories ranging from the typical (geography, history) to the slightly different (drama TV shows, pop music) to the downright quirky (beer, heavy people). It’s a great mix as it keeps things interesting. I’ve played it a lot and I’ve still yet to see any repeated questions. You can adjust all sorts of settings from difficulty level to how many questions you want for each category. The difficulty levels also scale well with Beginner level being the sort of questions one could answer in their sleep to Mastermind difficulty being extremely challenging at times!

In a similar guise to Quizmaster, there is also the Beat the Clock single player mode where quick answers are needed. This was an ideal mode to play when faced with limited time as, at most, it only takes 2 minutes to complete. There is always the ability to resume a game though if the need to quit the game suddenly arises. Challenge and Passaround modes add the multiplayer element to QuizQuizQuiz and make for some good fun if a friend (or friends) is around to play with. Both modes are similar in that you pass the iPhone back and forth between you, however Challenge offers the same questions for each player while Passaround gives random questions for each player.
The modes are pointless if the game’s not fun though and pleasantly, QuizQuizQuiz is fun. Crucially it also offers appropriate questions for different regions. It offers questions in four different languages, as well as localised questions for the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand and India. This instantly solves a common problem with quiz games as it ensures that the game has relevant questions regardless of the region you live in. Suitably the English UK selection offered questions on British TV, British beer and British sport, while the English USA option switches to US TV and US sport. Huge kudos must be given to FourDoorLemon and QuizQuizQuiz for considering that all markets want to try this game, instead of targeting only one.

There’s even a rather nice Awards system that’s a little like the 360’s achievement system with awards given for such events as answering a certain number of questions correctly in row or incorrectly answering a number of questions.
QuizQuizQuiz is shaping up to be an extremely competent trivia game. Look past the uninteresting graphics – trivia games really can’t look exciting. However QuizQuizQuiz is great fun made all the more so by the array of different questions. I can’t say enough how pleased I was to see that questions have been designated to different regions enabling those from the around the world to enjoy it rather than simply being restricted to US or UK slanted questions.
QuizQuizQuiz hasn’t got a confirmed release date yet but as always, The Portable Gamer will be here to keep you informed on the progress of this appealing trivia game.

Hell yeah, this looks like the kind of fun I want to be having. Does it cost for the iphone?

Hi there! This fantastic new game also offers lots of fun for European Spanish players. It is also localised for this audience. I have participated in its development for the Spanish region and I must say… IT WILL BE A SUCCESS!!!
