Developer/Publisher: Rock Ridge Games, LLC
Genre: Follow the notes sequence, Simon
Price: $0.99
Verdict: Hi-larious fart game/music player which keeps you laughing & knee slapping for more.
Pros: Nice western campfire graphics with some nicely tuned toots & cowboy farting animations, save your own songs.
Cons: Tap zones a bit small, can only make songs with 12 “notes” rather than all 18 you can hear in this app.

Oh, the simple days of life on the range: Wide open skies. Stars a-twinkling, coyotes calling for supper, scorpions huddling in the boots and rattlers shaking their derriere. A time to enjoy margarine instead of spoilt butter, and a chap named Cookie serving up some fine victuals (said: vittles). Here we have our music troupe, forgoing any airs of uppity manners, Black Bart and the Tumblin’ Tumbleweeds. A cool desert night finds our posse basking in the warmth of a cracklin’ fire. But times have been tough, and, apparently they’ve kindled their instruments for that fire. How sweet it is. These boys, though, can’t sit still for their hankerin’ of musical greatness.

Western Wind is the game that honors their efforts in a musical hoedown. They’ve eaten their beans, though. Yep, they fart – a lot.  And, you can make them fart a lot more. The game has two main ingredients: Follow That Fart & Musical Fruit. That’s all you need to make an unsavory impression, served up in a mix of aroma rich memories, on your nearest & dearest.

Follow That Fart dishes-up six cowpokes hunkered around the fire in glorious techy-color, each dude with a bean can at the bottom of the screen ready for his moment. One of our boys gives a toot and it’s up to you to tap the can for his “note”. Then he toots again followed by another cowboy tootin’ his note. Your task is to tap the same “notes” you hear & see (in the right order, of course). Then there are three notes for you to replicate, then four and so on, ad nauseam. How many notes can you follow? How long does this go on? How can you stop giggling? Well, they never seem to run out of beans. If you ever played that classic game Simon, then you know what’s up in them hills.

Aw, you missed one? “That’s just not how it’s done” or some other statement lets you know you missed. You’ll hear the pattern again, so just keep giving it your best. Oh, and another thing, laughing at their deeds makes it tough to keep track of their meandering melodies. Each cowboy has his own style of lettin’ one rip. A lean here, a little lurch there and they sit right back down. The fart sounds do them some justice and the crickets and jaw-harping in the still of the night’s background help you smell the success.

Musical Fart serves our fellas up again, but this time it’s your moment to shine. Yep, you can make them play a song. Just tap on their bean cans and fart your way through some “Home On the Range,”  “My Dog Has Fleas,” or any score you care to contrive. If you hold the arrow on the side of the screen, your cowboys can fart in another octave, so you can get some nasty trumpeting going. Record them, in the app, and play your tunes for everyone in your family, circle or den. You’ll laugh ’till you cry & cry ’till you toot. The recording capabilities allow for pauses and any sort of timing you can work in. So you can record “Mary Had A Little…Lamb” for maximum comedic timing.

Western Wind’s sound is fairly good for a phone fart, not too juicy, though. These guys are pros, after all. The Follow That Fart uses different fart tones than what’s in the Musical Fart portion. Too bad, some of those from “Follow” are kind of spectacular. The voice-overs are authentic sounding without being discouraging like a buzzer. The tap zones on the bean cans are a bit small, though. The movements of these guys, when they let one rip, is genius.

Rating and uploading of songs is slated for a future update, as well as a leaderboard to let everyone know who has the best heart. So mosey on over to the App Store and plunk down your 99¢ for Western Wind and get your farts started.
