The drones are also known as Corpus or Grineer constructs that have been deployed to mine from asteroids. They make a loud noise when in operation and can be knocked out by shooting them in the central core.

Warframe resource drones

A Warframe resource drone is a Corpus or Grineer construct that has been deployed to mine from asteroids. It makes a loud noise when in operation and can be knocked out by shooting it’s central core, located on top of the machine. Doing so will earn you points that can be used to purchase Warframe upgrades, mods, and other items in the game. Warframe Drones are a diverse group of machines, each with their own unique design and function. Resource drones are a mining machine, they have been excavating the asteroids in space for years. The Grineer use these machines to strip mine planets, literally carving out chunks of their surface and refining them into usable materials.

You can distinguish a Resource Drone from a regular Corpus Ship by looking for its orange laser plume that the plays in front of the ship as it flies. The laser is used to drill and cut through the asteroids, and is a giveaway that you’re looking at a Drone.

How to Take Down a Warframe Resource Drone

To engage with a Warframe resource drone, you will need to shoot down the drones until they drop credits, that can be used to purchase items in-game. The Grineer deploy these machines to excavate asteroids and refine ores for their war efforts. You can distinguish a Resource Drone from a regular Corpus Ship by looking for its orange laser plume that the plays in front of the ship as it flies. The drones can be shot down to earn points, which can be used to purchase Warframe upgrades, mods, and other items in the game. Shooting the central core will cause more damage than shooting any other part of the drone, and will earn you more points. You can also hack the drones to disable their mining operation, but this will only work if you’re undetected. Hacking a Warframe drone will earn you additional points, and the drone will remain disabled for a limited amount of time.

Once the drone has been destroyed, it will drop credits that can be used to purchase items in-game. You will also receive affinity (experience) for destroying the drone.

Corpus Ships vs Warframe Drones

Resource drones are different from regular Corpus Ships in a number of ways. Both ships drop credits on destruction, but resource drones also drop affinity and we’ve seen Grineer Dropships drop resources in the past. Also, while preparing this article I noticed that all non-mission critical ships have an entry in codex stating ‘This ship is not player usable’. It would be great if we could get flyable Corpus Ships in the game at some point, but for now Warframe resource drones are the only ones you can engage.
