There have always been trends and fluctuations within the gaming industry. And primarily today we’re going to be focussing on the changes that have been happening when it comes to gaming and through what medium you’re gaming. And by this, we don’t, of course, mean whether you’re on a smartphone, console, or even on your PC, but whether you’re playing a game directly or through your browser. If you don’t know the difference between these, take your smartphone, for example. If you go to, let’s say, the app store and download a casino app, that means that you’re not using the browser. However, if you have to go to Google and find it there or type in the website name, you can reach the app then.

Does It Really Matter?

So you’re probably thinking, What’s the difference? You end up at the same app or game in the end, don’t you? Well, yes, but there can sometimes be some differences that you might notice when it comes to the overall performance of the app. And you might be forced in some instances to actually game through a browser.

The reason for this is that when you install an app on your phone, it takes up memory. It’s like you’ve got a field, and it’s now taken up a certain portion of that field. And so, for phones that don’t have much memory, it can restrict how many games you can download in app form. Whereas if you run one through a browser, it relies on RAM or read-only memory to run rather than any permanent storage.

What are you Playing it on?

Of course, if you’re playing on a console such as the Xbox or Playstation, you’ll be aware that you can only play app-based games. This is regardless of whether you get it on a disc or if you’re downloading it from the PlayStation Store, for example. There is no option (yet) to play through a browser on a console.

This is different, however, as a console serves one main purpose, and that is to allow you to play games. This is different, however, as you may well be aware if you’re on your smartphone or PC. This is so you can understand why browser gaming isn’t a viable or offered option on consoles.

In Summary

So, in summary, why should you be opting for browser-based gaming? Well, typically, it was seen as an old-style way of playing games, but now that couldn’t be further from the case. Traditionally, you were left very limited with what browsers you could use. However, thanks to advancements in software development, browsers such as Google Chrome have advanced in such a way that it means that they can support ever more demanding ways, and not only that, but in a way that is optimal for your gaming experience and performance, too. And so, next time you see the option to play a game through a browser, you should go for it.
