The presence of superheroes in film is increasingly popular, and they star in some of the most famous releases in recent years. But they have also become one of the most common themes in video games. The truth is, they are a perfect resource for these products: they are well-known characters with interesting backstories, appealing superpowers, and highly inspiring missions for a compelling storyline.
We’ve seen all sorts of appearances in the games available today. Some of these superheroes even have their own titles or are part of others. But with such a vast universe and such a long history, there are quite a few characters who deserve to be the protagonists of their own video games. Let’s make a small selection.
Daredevil
Over 20 years ago, Matt Murdock starred in a video game, but we haven’t seen him in the modern era. And that’s a real shame because, besides being one of Marvel’s iconic characters and starring in one of the best TV series ever made, his abilities could work incredibly well in that kind of entertainment. And, of course, it would be fantastic to see Kingpin or Bullseye battling him in a digitized New York City.
Galactus
The Devourer of Worlds has returned to the spotlight thanks to his appearance in the new Fantastic Four movie. He is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe, and his need to consume planets is a very interesting premise for a video game. Furthermore, it could introduce other characters into the plot, such as the Kree, the Skrulls, Silver Surfer, Terrax, and so on. For now, we have seen on Marvel Snap. But it could have its own title, deservedly so.
Cannonball
The former leader of the New Mutants eventually became one of the most charismatic superheroes in the Marvel comics universe. This was especially true in his early days when he could barely control his flight powers. That would make for an ideal plot for a video game. In fact, there are titles available on some platforms where you can play casino games legally that deal with similar themes.
Alpha Flight
We’re talking about a team here, rather than a lone superhero. But the “Canadian Avengers” deserve their own game, given the interesting backstories of each member. This is especially true if we consider the period when John Byrne took over their adventures in the 1980s. It’s also worth noting that they’ve had many crossovers with the X-Men throughout their history, which would add even more interest to a potential video game.
The Wrecking Crew
Another group; but this time, supervillains. And, although somewhat forgotten, they are very famous in comics (especially the older ones). Wrecker, Bulldozer, Piledriver, and Thunderball, as well as (occasionally) The Absorbing Man, have faced a great number of heroes throughout their history; most of the time, suffering inevitable defeats. But their mechanics are perfect for a video game where they can put to use the abilities they gained from the Asgardians.
Magneto
Hero or villain? It depends on the era. One thing’s for sure, Magneto is always a true star when he appears in comics or movies. He certainly deserves his own video game. And the quest for a better world for mutants (even if it’s not so great for humans) is a fantastic premise, with as many possibilities as there are applications for this Marvel icon’s powers.
Beast
Hank McCoy has been a member of both the X-Men and the Avengers. His sense of humor and intelligence have led to all sorts of dialogues and situations. And, in a video game, these could provide a very entertaining plot, especially if other characters he frequently collaborates with are involved. The Beast’s agility and unique moves would look fantastic when controlled with a console controller or computer keyboard.
Human Torch
A member of the Fantastic Four, he is perhaps the most iconic and charismatic of the group. The Human Torch’s powers include flight, fire manipulation, flamethrowers (including the powerful “Supernova”), and much more. He has also had experience acting solo, so a video game specifically for him would be more than appropriate. That doesn’t mean his Fantastic Four teammates couldn’t make a cameo appearance, of course (although they would have a very hard time overshadowing him).
