Adapted From The Book, VALHALLA LORK OR GERHILD

To the average citizen of the late 28th century, an airship was just a luxury mode of transport. However, to those in Valhalla, they were life-saving devices that carried supplies and civilians across the galaxy. One ship named Gerhild would take a passenger named Volvoa to a planet called Arkturus.

What happened next would change the fate of this humble citizen forever…

As Gerhild approached Arkturus, it was clear that an asteroid had damaged power systems and crippled the ship’s engines. The Captain tried his best to land safely on a remote part of the planet, but it was doubtful that the ship would stay in one piece. The landing wasn’t perfect, and both pilots were ejected from their seats, crashing to the ground below. Our protagonist, Volvoa, died along with her sister…

…but not quite yet.

Valhalla lork or gerhild – history

As she opened her eyes, she saw herself staring back at herself. She returned to the dead as a Valkyrie, with only one duty: To judge the souls of those who died in Arkturus’s most recent crash. She would now be known as Gerhild.

The first soul she came across entered Valhalla through natural causes; His name was Volvoa. He told her everything that had happened and why he was sent to Valhalla. He’d been a passenger on Gerhild, and he asked her if she could help them escape from Arkturus. Valhalla wasn’t the paradise that The Faith claimed it was, after all. After hearing his story, Gerhild decided that she needed to hear more stories in order to pass judgement on Volvoa.

As she was about to judge him, he asked her why the Faith lied to its followers. She explained that it had always been believed that those who died were judged by their actions on Earth. Those who are worthy are reborn as Valkyries, while those who are not go to Helheim, where they suffer for all eternity. But there had been a change of plans.Gerhild explained that Valhalla and Helheim were originally supposed to be one and the same place. However, Helheim had become infested with evil spirits, and this was getting out of hand. What’s more, an evil Valkyrie named Lamia was amassing an army of demons there, hoping to take over Valhalla.

As a result, all deceased souls were now sent to Helheim, except for Valkyries, who became one of Hel’s guards. Volvoa was shocked that such an important change had gone unnoticed by the general public and asked Gerhild how anyone would know that Helheim wasn’t Valhalla. She responded that it was impossible; only those who’ve died know the truth.Volvoa now understood how detrimental The Faith’s lies were and asked Gerhild if he could help her stop them. She agreed that they should work together to spread awareness of their plight, but as mortals they would need an airship to do so…

Gerhild had a brilliant idea. She would travel to her sister’s grave and pray for a sign, begging the gods to resurrect her as well so they could work together. She set out with Volvoa in hopes of getting an answer…As she approached the resting place of her body, Gerhild began to see Valkyries flying around in the distance. She wondered what was going on, but it seemed that she would have to continue her quest without an answer. Thankfully, Volvoa had a good idea about where to go next: Valhalla’s last airship crash site! As they approached the scene of the accident, Gerhild could not believe her eyes…

A lone soul floated among the wreckage. It was her sister, Thora! Gerhild begged her to awaken but it seemed that she had not heard…Nonetheless, Gerhild took comfort in the fact that they were both Valkyries now and could help each other save Valhalla from Lamia. As she said goodbye to Volvoa, he gave her one final bit of advice: Gerhild’s sister was not the only Valkyrie to have survived the last airship crash…

Gerhild walked deeper into the crash site and could hear Volvoa crying out for her. Suddenly, she heard a great crash, as if something had fallen from the sky. She continued to walk towards it, but soon stopped in horror at what she saw…
