What started as a movie is finally becoming a game all players can explore. The Avatar film series has been highly successful at the box office. But, thanks to Ubisoft, it is finally coming in a game called Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

In this game, players can become a part of Pandora’s history. They can play a role in the conflict between the native Na’vi and the settlers of Earth. Powered by Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine for next-gen consoles, you can play this game on Xbox One X/S. PS4 and PS5. Read on to discover more updates about this new release.

Your Character is A NaVi Who Rebels Against Their Captors

Let’s start with the backstory. The new extension to the Avatar film series, Frontiers of Pandora, introduces us to the far western reaches of Pandora. You take on the role of a young NaVi kidnapped from their tribe and raised by the Resources Development Administration (RDA). After being rescued from the last battle of the first film by some local NaVi, you are incarcerated in Crosley for the next 15 years.

You will then need to work your way into earning the trust of the NaVi so that they can teach you the ways of their tribe. This will require a lot of fetch quests and the capture of RDA outposts. After restoring their faith in you, the NaVi will provide you with weapons and the ability to ride an Ikran.

It’s currently unknown whether or not any of the movie’s recognizable blue characters will appear in this game. James Cameron released the following statement. “Together, we can create a world where the events of the Avatar movies coexist with a new setting, new fauna, new characters, and a brand-new story.” So we have to wait and see until it’s released and play the game.

James Cameron’s Avatar: Treasure of Pandora is not the first Avatar game that has been created, though. Casino and slot players can already enjoy real money pokies with the same theme. One of these slots is from the renowned provider, IGT. The Avatar slot features magnificent 3D visuals, 5 reels and 7,776 ways to win. Also, you can customize your gaming experience by choosing your character and music. Due to this outstanding gameplay, the game was named “Best Slot Product” in the 2014 Gaming Technology Awards.

Uses Snowdrop As Its Engine

Second, it uses the same engine as the famous Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle game. Putting aside the franchise potential for a moment, the Avatar prequels’ Pandoran Wilderness is undeniably gorgeous. This also has to be reflected in the game because the franchise is established on its fantastic, out-of-this-world visuals. Anything short of this production in its game would be disappointing.

This is why Ubisoft’s primary game engine, Snowdrop, is currently being used to create this game. Past games from the provider, which used the snowdrop engine, have been remarkable, problem-free, and stable.

However, the Ubisoft team still needs to demonstrate the full potential of the snowdrop engine across a wide range of situations and color schemes. Because the game is unlikely to look as good as the movies, this may temper those expectations. It will probably have fewer CGI six-under-a-jellyfish tree moments, considering that the game doesn’t have the endless resources and money that the movie equivalent does.

It’s Full of Animals To Tame And Ride

On the other hand, the methods of travel in Pandora are anything but conventional. You can ride a six-die horse across the ground or soar on an Ikran. Your closeness with your flying freak means you can give it a name and some personal touches. However, we are not sure whether both modes of movement will have the same degree of personalization. Regardless, it would be an exciting journey and a possibility to keep an eye out for.

You can expect more options for personalization in upcoming expansions, DLC and Season Passes. This is because Ubisoft has its target market through the blue dangling hair. The franchise has a lot of fans, and many players can’t get enough of dressing up animals.

Ubisoft is Leaning Heavily Into Licensed Games

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be a heavily licensed game. It’s clear that Ubisoft is shifting to more high-end, free-to-play games. We will be seeing this with Avatar and a few other games in the near future. The same team at Mammoth Entertainment is developing Star Wars Outlaws, a third-person action-adventure game. Even while licensed games have never been a sure thing, many people keep their fingers crossed that this pair of games does better than the recent Gollum game from Daedalic Entertainment.

It’s common knowledge that Ubisoft is an industry leader in creating triple-A titles. This is especially true when they expand upon the Division or Far Cry framework. It’s also evident that this game will at least ensure a minimum quality standard.

The Release Dates

The release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was initially scheduled for 2022, then moved to 2023. Now, it is expected to launch on December 7 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and everyone’s favorite Amazon Luna. While we don’t know if we will get the advantages of using a gaming keyboard over a pad, we do know we’ll have a chance to access more premium packages of the game. The standard Ubisoft Gold and Ultimate editions come with the Season Pass and two story-based downloadable content packs, and cost $110 and $130, respectively.

The ultimate pack, which includes even more swag, costs an additional $20. Lastly, for $230, you can purchase the collector’s edition of the game, including the Ultimate Edition and all its downloadable content. This also comes with a resistance field notebook, an absolute blueprint poster, three lithographs, and a 35-centimeter-tall statue of a NaVi shooting a bow.

Final Thoughts

There you have it, a game release set to give you the premium gaming adventure worth the hype. These are the updates we have now. However, get ready to be blown away by the actual game while limiting your expectations. We know that it will be similar to the movie; however, it will be in a game format and with you as the main character.
